There are patients that find dentures to be an acceptable and effective solution for missing teeth. However, there are also a great number of people whose dentures are ill-fitting. Unfortunately, ill-fitting dentures can not only cause frustration and pain, but they are not able to deliver the proper function that they were made for.

For patients who continue to have ill-fitting dentures causing them more harm than good, it may be time to consider implant-supported dentures. Implant-supported dentures use three to five dental implants to secure the dentures in place. Implant-supported dentures provide a firm, durable support system much like your natural teeth roots. They can eliminate slipping and sliding issues of dentures and allow patients to once again to eat their favorite foods without fear of their dentures dislodging.

If you are experiencing these common signs of ill-fitting dentures, it may be time to consult with a dental implants dentist for help:

Discomfort – This is your biggest indication that there is a problem with the way your dentures fit. Pain may be due to gum irritation of your dentures slipping. Some patients even find that their cheeks are sore from constantly trying to keep dentures in place.

Oral sores – The friction from dentures sliding back and forth on tender tissues inside your mouth can easily cause sores. This makes eating and drinking especially painful. If not treated, oral sores can become infected.

Speech Problems – Many denture wearers have difficulty speaking if their dentures are not fitted properly. Either patients slur their speech or talk with a clenched bite in an effort to keep their dentures in pace.

Diet and Weight Changes – If ill-fitting dentures have caused you to change your dietary habits dramatically or even resulted in weight changes, it is time to make amendments regarding your tooth replacement system. This is a common sign of ill-fitting denture users because they tend to gravitate towards soft, fatty foods like ice cream to avoid the need for chewing more healthy and fibrous foods.

While it is certainly possible that your dentures can be adjusted to a comfortable fit, it is not uncommon for patients to fight an uphill battle when it comes to feeling confident in their dentures. Using dental implants to support dentures can help you achieve an attractive, functional and confident smile. You should never endure pain and discomfort to replace missing teeth.
